User Interface Design
Hello! My name is Sandra Waihuini.
I am originally from Nairobi, Kenya but I currently reside in New York City. I recently graduated from Parsons The New School For Design where, I was pursuing a Masters in Design Studies and a minor in Gender Studies. This multidisciplinary approach has nuanced my understanding of gendered poverty experiences and the importance of incorporating design into larger theoretical arenas. For example, in ethics, development, sustainability, and identity. Through my knowledge of user experience principles, design thinking and background in visual design, I hope to design financial and/or health products that make the everyday lives of people better. I believe that I am, where I am now, because of the convergence of multiple disciplines. When I am not focussing on brushing up on my design skills, I can be found doing yoga, tea tasting, or jewellery making.
Check out my essay Honey, I killed the bees in Dark Design: Critical Cases on Design in Dark Times which, discusses the role of bees in design as they serve a fundamental role in our ecosystem. It focuses on how their role must continuously be acknowledged, examined and protected.
